Parallax Laundromat or
Don't Forget the Fabric Softener
In the city, and to a lesser extent, small towns, there exists the sweeping phenomenon of the Laundromat. Unlike the self-contained households of suburbia, these environments where washing machines are not always found in homes, create a demand for public facilities. The Laundromat is where people bring their soiled laundry, private, to wash affordably in public. I wanted to explore the idea of a structure, such as the anachronistic Laundromat, being the one constant as everything inside changes, the people, furniture, angles, light, and the clothes themselves. The view of the thing, can change the thing, and what is inside is in constant flux.
I am fascinated with everything banal and ordinary. There are layers of complexity given to innocuous, unassuming objects and places by how that thing is used, how that space is occupied, and the perceptions that are changed by the experiences of the thing or space.
Its said that people only know for certain who they are in times of action and crisis, if this is true then the times in between can be a struggle. These moments of limbo, the routines of daily life provide us with what can be an unbearable time spent inwards, not knowing, yet always in motion. I feel that while crisis may give us great insight into ourselves, that these monotonous instants are no less significant. Maybe in this dingy, badly lit, mildly dangerous Laundromat someone knew himself or herself for the first time, or, alternately, questioned their existence.
Or maybe this is just about Kates doing their laundry.
I'm not sure why, but I really like this shot. Somehow it seems very postcard-ish or something, not sure. Interesting concept for a series, I quite like it.

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
